Why are all the COOL Sega handhelds stuck in China??

Post by nathanallan1 »

I take a look at the global selling sites like made-in-china.com and a few others and I find these:
http://www.made-in-china.com/china-pro ... -16H-.html
And cn never find them for sale here. The main reason I ask is because a person came to me today wanting me to buy a bunch of them. I want to. They're very nice and better quality than you would have expected. Or I would have expected.
I wish these things would get licensed and that way I and everyone else that wants one can HAVE one-- or three or four!

The one he showed me was the bomb for sure.

An idea I hd was to just sell the console, and have the game cart a flash cart or SD card adapter. This way, it's a player ONLY and the cart is blank.

I'm thinking hard on this one.

Damn that looks pretty sweet, well at least if you import it friends are less likely to have one and be more impressed lol!
I always like showing friends and family who only know about retail commercial stuff pushed by the big companies things like a GP2x handheld or a Famiclone, they are always shocked since they aren't aware such things exists!

It's a clone of the portable mega Drive for sale at play-asia. I'll call to see if he can get them with SD-cart adapters tomorrow, and that will side-step the whole licensing process as a homebrew device. I'd for sure pay fifty bucks for something like that. It isn't a GP-anything or a Pandora, but there are SO many handheld games out there waiting to be put in the hands of loving owners!

I am gonna consider Project China Escape as underway!!

Interest check, I am referring to the same pic as before, sorry but cross-posted. Couldn't be helped.

I am purely seeing what the demand may look like. There is a deal in the works for me, and I want to see how people would react to:

A) A portable game system that uses SD cards/MD/Genesis cart adapter
B) Is a genesis at its heart but there are plenty of homebrews being run on emulators now
C) Is about the size of a PSP with a 3" screen and seems to work pretty well.

Features include a rechargeable battery, charger, TV-out, comes in several colors, *possibly* an SD or CF card adapter, **possibly** is pin compatible with original MD/Genesis games.

Hopefully I can figure it at less than $70 plus shipping. It's all up in the air at this point.

I was approached by a person that "has a friend in China" that has these, and wants to sell them in the USA. They are very similar to the pic attached, though not identical; same mold, though that one uses AAA's and is not rechargeable. I demo'd it and it plays nice-- great button feel, solid in the hand without being too heavy, nice bright screen.

I do not know about the battery life, shock protection or anything like that. I think I played it for like, four minutes.

But I was impressed.

The best thing would be if it is pin-compatible with the original carts, that would simply rock, and I'll be stocking up.

Please let me have some feedback on this. No games will be available **with** the unit.

Looks pretty cool. I'd prolly get one if I had the money. Reminds of the FC Mobile. I'll prolly get one of those too when I get the cash.

I remember my friend had a sega game gear, and it totally blew my gameboy out of the water. I'll be sticking to my PSP, because i use it as a mp3 player, movie clips, internet browser, and the occasional game. :)

If you have a PSP then yeah, this thing is blown out of the water by it. Still, a handheld Genesis that isn't a GG or Nomad is really cool. Especially if it's Linux ready. Working on that part, too.
