Do you own an arcade machine?

Post by TwinChargers »

Personally I do not. Living in an apartment and having priorities like children are keeping a coin op from being a reality for the time being. I suppose a side question on this topic is what one would you purchase if you could get one? I'd want one that could get decent replay value and be a classic at the same time. I'd maybe go with an Outrun, or possibly an Arkanoid machine. What are your guys thoughts?

I own a Double Dragon cab which I converted into a "poor man's" MAME machine.

I picked it up for next to nothing at a Thrift Store. It powered up but had no picture, so what I did was hook up a Dreamcast to it, and put it where the change box was. I replaced the joystick panel with a custom piece that fit two of these controllers :

Being that the DC had four controller ports, I sometimes hook up two standard DC controllers for some four player action on games like Gauntlet and The Simpsons.

The sucky thing is that since I upgraded to Vista I can't figure out how to burn emulator discs anymore for the DC. It seems to be a lost art now. But the DC makes an awesome emulator machine, without having to mod anything.

In early 2001, I was forced to leave behind a non-working Kung-Fu Master when moving to a smaller place. I had it since 1989. :(

I have been thinking about trying to get Area 51 as I collect Jaguar stuff and this game uses the Co Jag hardware. I'm just not sure if I'm going to be moving closer to where I work yet so I don't wanna get one and then have to move it. Also If I do end up moving I'm not sure if where I move to will have enough room, so for now I guess I'll wait.

I wish to some day own a 4 or 6 slot Neo-Geo MVS cab. I'd definitely thrown in SvC: Chaos, Garou, Neo Turf Masters, Metal Slug, and some Sam Sho. I'd also like to have a WWF WreslteFest, original Donkey Kong, Pac-Man/Galaga cocktail talbe, and a USA vs. Russia bubble dome style hockey game.

I would absolutely love to someday own Mortal Kombat 1-3 on arcade; that's always been a dream of mine :)

That's quite the collection. I just hope one day I can get one of some game. If I wanted to be picky it would be one of those that play a ton of games and is of the cocktail table variety. For whatever reason I'm a big fan of cocktail tables.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to the forums!

I'd really like a Deadly Discs of Tron full environmental cab.

yes, theres an orange(!) universalcab in our living room.
a collector gave it as gift to me. i cleaned it, made a new controlpanel and marquee.

the best thing is, that it fits perfectly to the room, so my wife cant say anything against it :D

That's an awesome color scheme you got there. Instantly retro- just add burnt orange!

Welcome to the boards by the way!

Wow, great-looking job there!

Since I don't know anything about the technical aspects of owning a Tempest, that probably wouldn't be a good idea (the hardware could barely handle the game back then), lest it be in the shop a lot. I'd like to have Major Havoc, the obscure Space Fever (Space Invaders rip-off, but with three games on it), Challenger, and Phoenix.

I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting...

Nice setup nexus. Don't have the room for a cab yet but I'd love one when I get another house. I have a neo geo mvs and a sega stv but haven't built my supergun as yet, got some monetary constraints at the moment.

Here's a nice blurry pic of me in 1990 in my old room next to my prized possession, Kung-Fu Master. The stone-washed jeans and mullet add an extra retro feel. :D
