Prototypes from the Big Names

Looking at http://www.atarimuseum.com/mainmenu/mainmenu.html, there were a few that caught my eye recently. I have heard of the Atari Cosmos, but the Spector (both using holographic images)? Aparently the 2600 wasn't there first cart based system either, that award goes to the Atari Game Brain.

That got me thinking, how many other consoles from the bigger name companies never saw the light of day? What are the extremely rare ones? We all know, or should know of the Atari Panther, and the Sega Neptune, were there some that Nintendo never slip through the cracks? How about the newer guys? Has Sony scrapped plans on any console since the PS1?

The Nintendo AVS (Advanced Video System) comes to mind. It was shown at the 1984 CES, It was a revolutionary system that looked like a hybrid computer. Even the controllers were wireless, and it came with a wand/light gun!

I wonder how that so radically changed from that system to the NES, which actually was released?
