Retro Arcade Featuring Pac-Man

Post by Darryl B. »

I just got this one yesterday. It comes with Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, Pac-Man Plus, Super Pac-Man, Pole Position, Galaga, Dig Dug, Bosconian, New Rally-X, Galaxian, Xevious and Mappy. I'll see about doing a YouTube review for it and put up some pics once the digital camera returns from being out of town.

I'll probably give it an 8 out of 10, not much was screwed up, only one game was (Xevious), a few elements are off on other games (Galaxian) and sounds are off on a few others. I'd say it's worth it's only $18 price tag though...if you buy it at a STORE: for some reason, after all these months I'd been looking for it (was this delayed or something?), I was still finding listings of it online as of yesterday for $30-40, which doesn't make any sense. Granted, I suppose that could include shipping, but the thing's not very heavy! Whatever.

Is this what you're talking about:

Looks cool, but it also seems from the pic you have to rip the packaging to open it. I really hate that. :(

That's what I thought too, but the one I have has totally different packaging, it's easy to open and has a handle on top, like a lunch box (actually it was kind of embarassing walking around Target with it, to be honest).

Just got done playing a bit of it now too :)

Pic time!

HERE'S what the (newer) box looks like:

Image

Control/base...not very big

Image

The menu's easy to navigate, just move left or right and press A to select game

Image

I still love the way the menu/pause button lights up when it's on!! (I'll try to get a shot of it later in the dark so it'll stand out better)

Video presentation of it. Video quality isn't good though, since I don't have a video camera (I'll eventually redo it when I get one, and it'll be a lot shorter, with just brief gaming footage!). It's a full 10 minutes long too, as a warning.

Bumping this one up, since I already have to exchange my unit for another one, since the joystick's already going out  It's only on Pole Position though, as you *twist* the joystick around to move your car, which is pretty cool. Unfortunately now the car suddenly jumps to the side with no warning (no it's not a glitch, this only just started happening the other day, and it's getting worse and worse), usually plowing into another car at worst, or at best (or make that 'least worst'), it delays you for a few seconds after you have to reposition yourself and recover (especially if you hit the side of the road, slowing you down even MORE). No, I didn't rag the hell out of it, my original Vectrex controller still works all these years later, for God's SAKE! I take care of my stuff!

At first I was thinking I wouldn't bother, since the other 11 games aren't affected (yet), but it's just going to get worse, I want to play P. Position (dammit!), and it IS defective, after all.

Hopefully I just got a bad one, since after this exchange, if it starts going out again (the 90 day warranty will be up before the end of the month), I won't be able to exchange again, and I'm not going to buy a new one again.

Wow, that's awful. Looks like these things are made cheap, hope you get another one that will last this time.

My 2600 controllers still work perfectly after all these years of dropping and throwing them in disgust as a kid. :joystick:

I might've just gotten a bad one, I've communicated with a few others on YouTube where theirs still work months later.

But yeah, I still have my original Vectrex controller, and that still works over 25 years later, never mind the fact that I abandoned my Vectrex for 10 years (I hate to admit), it still worked...oh yeah, for the first couple of years I had and played it, then for the last several years again when I got back into it via the homebrew scene starting in 2004. So yeah, that's a trite bit pathetic.
