Really bad sequels

Post by Zap! »

Name some really bad gaming sequels. You don't have to name your worst ever, but as many as you want. I'll start by naming Zillion 2 for the Sega Master System. I really loved the first, and took pride when I beat it. I didn't even bother to finish the second, as it was not to my liking very much at all. Thoughts?

It's funny, most gaming sequels, in general, don't follow the usual 'sequel rules', like how movies do, where most of the time, in general, the original was better.

Calling a certain scrolling shooting game 'Zillion 2' didn't make much sense at all though, those were two totally different games period. Same with the original Vanguard and the so-called 'Vanguard 2'. Vanguard 2 was ok, but didn't hold a candle to the original...which, again, didn't have anything in common with the first one anyway. And Time Pilot '84 wasn't much of a step up than the original either, although I wouldn't say it was the 'worst' though.

The second Alex Kidd, Lost Stars, was also not nearly as good as the original. Not that it was terrible, but it didn't follow the high standards of Miracle World.

Some people will probably bring up Super Mari Bros. 2 (US) or Zelda II, but I wouldn't list them because while not true to the original, they are good games in general.

Oh, I know: Spy Hunter 2. That one made little sense in supposedly being a sequel to the original, and it was stripped of everything that made it fun in the first place; augh. So it was made into 3-D that time, so what? First one utterly destroyed it, hands down.
