My guess would be an old Sierra Online game (Bard's Tale? Although that might not be Sierra...that, or one of the King's Quest games), but I could be wrong...
You're right that it's an old Sierra game, but not the games you mentioned. It always reminded me of the King's Quest games though, good guess.
