How many of you own this gem? I got mine Christmas '98 and I still play it. What a fantastic console! I still prefer it to the PSX for many reasons; what are your thoughts on this under rated system?

To me its more of a curiosity. I've never played it, nor do I even know much about it. It seems to me more like an urban legend than anything else. No one I knew even had one. You never see them or there games in pawn shops. I don't remember them getting a whole lotta press. I have a group of friends at work that joke that the console never even existed.

Please enlighten me on your Sega Saturn experiences.

I had one friend growing up that was all Sega all the time. He was the only person I knew that had a SMS, the first person to get a Genesis and Dreamcast, and the only person that I knew that had a 32X, Sega CD, and Saturn. I have one of each now, except for a dedicated SMS, and the Saturn had some great games but not many. I have a handful of titles, but none of them except for Shinobi and Radiant Silvergun stand out as absolute classics.

I can understand where you're coming from; I think I was the only kid in a fifty mile radius that owned one. I never knew anyone else (until recently) that had even played a Saturn, let alone own one. I will say this; it's one hell of a system and it slipped under the radar for most gamers. It's probably got the most solid RPG library of its time, and is LOADED with gems like Nights, Sonic R, Bug! and Bug Too! etc.

I got mine a couple of years after it was released. Great system, it's where I first played the original Tomb Raider. But the memory has now stopped saving saved games. No longer holds data. :(

A sad Christmas story...

I got one way too late. In the late 90s, my friend and I were obsessed with Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, and 2-D fighters. I remember begging and begging my parents to get me one for Christmas, and I finally got one that came with VC and VF, and I also got one of NHL games and Street Fighter Alpha 2.

(Now before I go on, keep in mind that I knew virtually nothing about the Playstation and Metal Gear Solid hadn't come out in the US yet).

So my friend and I got our Saturns that Christmas, and about the same time, Dragon Ball Z started showing on Cartoon Network and was getting way popular. So there was this anime store across from the local mall that also sold import games. Naturally, I bought a ST-Key and one DBZ game (don't remember which one), which is embarrassing to admit because I remember them having gems like the Phantasy Star Collection, Radiant Silvergun, AD&D, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and some shmups, but I was so crazy for DBZ, I got that game. What's even worse, is that when I took it home, the game turned out to be ass, but the anime store wouldn't let me return it. I was so pissed off, I got all my Saturn stuff and went to Funcoland and traded everything in for a Nintendo 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I just wish I knew how popular it would be now, and how great other import games were. I prollly would've held onto it. Oh well, I hope to get another one soon.

I have one with a modchip I installed. Works great though I haven't played it in sometime. I also have the 4MB Action Replay cart and the #D controller with KNIGHTS.

OoT is probably the only reason to trade in a Sega Saturn.

Ugh, I remembered when that happened to me. Even when installng fresh CR2032 cells, it just wouldn't hold my game saves for long. So I started dumping them on Dom's AR (EMS version...I need to pick one up...), but eventually it erased every file because of my error... ugh

Always wanted to install one of those solderless ones...never did because of fear...

I loved the Saturn. I still do, though I barely use it anymore. Though I need to turn it on, since I purchased one from a friend a few days ago (to have a spare backup unit).

I remember using the 4MB cart and loading up Xmen vs Street Fighter...I was in total shock. I thought I was playing an arcade game! It looked and sounded fantastic. The novelty wore off after a while, but it's still great to see.

I remember getting a genesis and a sega cd when they first came out. My mom was cool enough to dish out the 300 bucks for the sega cd, which flopped and no rental store had many games for it. Not many games period. I still have them both and still like them. By the time Saturn came out I was getting older and interested in other things so I had never played one. I got back into 2d games a couple of years ago and got me a Saturn and I have several games for it. I love it. The saturn has some great shmups, rpgs, platformers, and fighters. Also the saturn has internal memory, an extra ram slot, and is considered by some to have the best controller. The saturn is definitely the equal of the ps1 and beats it in some games when it comes to 2D. In 3D the ps1 may have the edge but I didn't get into retrogaming for 3D, and besides I have a ps too. Again it all comes down to the developer or whoever ported the game. The saturn has some great import games just like the ps1 and I love them both. Give it a chance and I bet you'll like it too.
