Anyone like abandoned places?

BS about anything you like in here, as long as it's not TOO controversial

Anyone like abandoned places?

Post by Darryl B. »

I love 'em, those, graveyards and the like. It makes you wonder about the places and people that were associated with them and all.

Upon being in the midst of a major undertaking of clearing out a bunch of files scattered on two computers, floppies and writeable cds once I bought two flash drives this week, I ran across a folder containing a few pics and brief video clips of an abandoned steel place here in town and suddenly made a video out of it tonight, which you can see on my channel.

Also, in regards to another subject, my brief H. A. A. G. gaming/pinball expo video is up on that channel too, just don't expect the greatest of sound quality.

I freaking LOVE abandoned places. Warehouses, creepy old mansions, etc. When I was a kid, I stumbled upon an old abandoned shell of a house out in the woods. Nobody had lived there in probably a hundred years. No one knew about it either. I didn't tell anyone about it for years, it was my private sanctuary. Ever since then I've had an affinity for places like that.

Hey, that's awesome! Ever get any pics?

Yeah, I love these places. I'm sure I'll always regret not ducking under one of the many openings in the fence to check out the old steel place, as I'm sure the people living by it weren't much on dialing 911 to report the occasional person rummaging around the place unless a murder happened there or something. Just not much into trudging into areas where there's 'no trespassing' signs though, along with every window of the place being smashed. Doubt it was a real friendly ruin...

Abandoned forums? Say it ain't so!

@ Darryl- naw, I never got any pics. It was a one bedroom/one living room house (shack) with an outhouse out back. The roof was pretty much gone. It had one glassless window and I would prop my BB gun up on the window sill and pretend I was Ash from Evil Dead and there was invisible Deadites after me. Hey, come to think of it, twenty years later and I pretty much do the same thing!

I don't! I clench my fists when I'm pissed off and imagine claws are popping out of them like I'm Wolverine! :D

Well, it's not truly abandoned since we post here still. :)

In Staten Island, there is an abandoned hospital that's supposed to be haunted called Seaview Hospital that everyone sneaked into. Now, I haven't been there since like 2001, but it is very scary. It is about a 1/4 mile into the woods, and fenced in. From what I understand, it's illegal to trespass, but everyone seems to do it. It is dangerous, as the building has been abandoned since the 70's.

Very cool! Especially with the 'snow' falling on it here on the forums! :D

I'd love to go there and look around, even if it's just up to the gates for a few photos (I'm not one for going any further; if it's got 'no trespassing' signs up, then I don't bother)

Oh yeah, figured I should put up most of the stills from the vid...

Not far from this telephone pole is an abandoned car dealership...hopefully it's still around...I should be able to find that out sometime this year!

I'm bumping this up for a couple of updates...

One, I came across something in regards to the abandoned steel factory. I still haven't gone downtown yet to do some research on it though, but I did just found a report online about how its former site had to be cleaned up due to contaminants in the soil and water though! Ouch, pretty bad...

And, I just started up an abandoned places Wikia! :)

http://abandonedplaces.wikia.com/wiki/

Only three articles thus far, but I just started this over the weekend. Yeah I know, two of them need cleanup already for the ref tags. I'm just in the process of sending out the word to abandoned places-type people (with YouTube videos and all) to get the word out and hopefully some action going with the place. I'll be working on several more articles soon too.
